BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra called Rajdeep Sardesai a “chamcha” of the Congress. “How dare you?” the journalist retorted. Of course this happened on live TV.
Shouting matches have become commonplace on news channels, whether it is between spokespersons of political parties, socialites debating Bollywood, or commando channel anchors ranting on top of their voice. It seems like there is nothing on news channels that will surprise us anymore, And yet, India Today consulting editor Rajdeep Sardesai and BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra managed to achieve this rare feat.
During a debate on the Kangana Ranaut controversy, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra called Sardesai a “chamcha” of the Congress for not giving him time to speak without interruption. The latter, offended by the personal attack, went on a “How dare you?” streak that would make even Greta Thunberg proud.

In the last few weeks, we’ve been bombarded with clips of everything absurd that passes off as prime time news these days – from Arnab Goswami’s “drugs do” rant to Patra’s “Rasode mein kaun tha” dig at Rahul Gandhi.

Patra later apologised saying he didn’t “intend to hurt anyone” and he was just annoyed because he was interrupted despite patiently listening for a long time.
Sorry didn’t intend to hurt anyone ..just got annoyed because despite patiently listening to my opponent for numerous minutes was interrupted the moment I started to speak ..so lost patience & these utterances🙏🙏 https://t.co/EJb0xH07C5

Sardesai gracefully accepted his apology along with a zinger, stating that “guess you thought you were on some other channel where oppn is not allowed to speak at all!” He asked Patra to take his “annoyance” out on his political rivals next time and not the “umpire”.
It's ok @sambitswaraj . I sleep with a clean conscience: neither chamcha nor bhakt. Guess you thought you were on some other channel where oppn is not allowed to speak at all!😄 Next time pl take out your ‘annoyance’ on your political rival and not on the hapless umpire!🙏 https://t.co/82MdEExlHJ
