Elections are quite incomplete without early predictions that often have us at the edge of our seats until the last minute. It was only natural that Donald Trump Jr, the eldest son of US President Donald Trump, should give his two cents on the ongoing US Presidential Election then. But perhaps Trump Jr could do with some geography lessons.

“Okay, finally got around to making my electoral map prediction,” Trump Jr tweeted along with a world map that was dominated by the “red wave”, the Republican Party’s colour. However, India along with China, Mexico, New York, and California was painted in the Democratic blue.

Using electoral maps to mark the US states in shades of red or blue to indicate Republican or Democratic wins is a common practice. But what caught the attention of netizens was the region of Jammu and Kashmir, which, unlike India, was red alongside Pakistan in support of Trump. The “predication map” also entirely excluded the Indian northeastern states.

What’s especially shocking is that Trump Jr’s mocking and ignorant post has come at a time when India-US relations were considered strong owing to Trump and PM Narendra Modi’s “friendship”. Howdy Modi-Namaste Trump, anyone? As expected, the map was met with a backlash by Indians on Twitter who pointed out the flaws in Trump Jr’s map.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor wasted no time in taking a dig at the government. “The price of Namo’s bromance: Kashmir and the North East cut off from the rest of India, and the whole ‘filthy’ place relegated by Don Jr to the realm of hostiles, along with China and Mexico,” he tweeted. “So much for the crores spent on obsequious serenading stadium events!”

Former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too didn’t hold back. “So much for the friendship with Trump Senior,” he mocked the highly publicised Modi-Trump relationship and stated that “Someone needs to take his [Trump Jr’s] colouring pencils away.”

Maybe the Trumps have finally decided to throw India under the bus once and for all. It was only a few weeks ago during the second presidential debate that Trump Senior described India as “filthy” for its air pollution.

Desis clapped back in the best way possible.

TBH, MS Paint doesn’t deserve this slander.

Of course, the red wave map had more than one flaw, just like the system. Now, who exactly is voting from the Russian water bodies and… Antarctica?

Some points were made.

Okay, several points were made.

Guess the election season gets everyone a little crazy.
