From a nagging knack for detail to a whole\u00a0<\/p>plethora of politically incorrect things she can say in front of your friends to embarrass you, Indian moms\u2019 <\/span>intrusive nature<\/span><\/a> and staunch refusal to cut the umbilical cord well into their kids\u2019 adulthood (in some cases, even their 30s and 40s) is something that has been <\/span>unjustly unaddressed<\/span><\/a> for far too long now.<\/span>\n\nThe most significant of these desi mom salient features is their ability to patronise you over even the smallest things… or momsplaining. Given my experience with my own mother, I\u2019ve managed to decipher what some of these slices of maternal savagery translate to.\n\n1. \u201cThe Speed Limit is 60km\/hr on this road.\u201d<\/strong>\nTranslation<\/strong>: You\u2019re going above 30km\/hr in a 60km zone?! This isn\u2019t Khatron Ke Khiladi!\nNo matter how old you get, your mom will never tire of treating you like the wailing, helpless four-kilo mass of human flesh you\u00a0were when she <\/span>first saw you<\/span><\/a>. It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019ve been driving down the exact same stretch of Western Express Highway for years on end. If your mom is in the car, you best be ready to take twice as long to reach your destination. By mentioning the newly installed speed guns and <\/span>stricter traffic police laws<\/span><\/a>, she will cleverly disguise her absolute lack of trust in your driving skills with motherly concern. <\/span>\n\nSolution<\/strong>: Next time, just Uber it. Enduring a long-winded lecture on why a Share would have been more convenient than this Micro is better than being reminded how fourth and fifth gears are alien concepts to your mom.\n\n2. \u201cThis is healthy food. You can buy it at Big Bazaar\u2019s produce section. You know Big Bazaar na?\u201d<\/strong>\nTranslation<\/strong>: I know your staple diet is instant noodles and beer. Eat a fucking fruit, you hedonist!\nThere\u2019s really no winning this one. Every time you feel like you are adulting just fine, there\u2019s nothing quite as humbling as having your dietary needs momsplained to you. The worst ones begin with,\u00a0\u201cI know you kids <\/span>party<\/span><\/a> a lot these days and that\u2019s great but…\u201d What usually follows is advice on what kind of food to consume\/avoid for the rest of the year. \u201cPlease avoid eating outside in the summer. Or Monsoon. Or around Shravana. Winter is fine though,\u201d conveniently dismissing your argument of <\/span>Mumbai having no winter. <\/span><\/a>\n\nSolution: <\/b>Try changing the topic to who got eliminated last in <\/span>Big Boss<\/span><\/a> before she brings up how having empty beer cans and rotting food in every corner of your apartment is unpleasant.<\/span>\n\n3. \u201cBeta, you know na there are many benefits of finding a life partner before 30?\u201d<\/strong>\nTranslation<\/strong>: Seriously dude, those grandkids aren\u2019t gonna make themselves.\n\u201cMummy sab jaanti hai\u201d is more relevant in 2018 than any other time in history mainly because sabki\u00a0mummy is on <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a>. Did you think she hadn\u2019t noticed how a frequent face on your stories isn\u2019t even on your friend\u2019s list anymore? Rookie mistake! Mommy dearest probably spends more hours <\/span>stalking your ex<\/span><\/a> per week than you spend at the gym. This versatile momsplain also allows her to effortlessly flow into two other favourite corollaries: \u201c<\/span>Right time to settle down<\/span><\/a>\u201d and \u201cThe biological clock is ticking away.\u201d <\/span>\n\nSolution<\/b>: Nip it in the bud and exclaim, \u201cFine! I\u2019m okay with having a <\/span>Shaadi.com<\/span><\/a> profile.\u201d Unless you want brazen accusations like, \u201cYour Tinder generation doesn\u2019t understand the value of companionship\u201d hurled at you.<\/span>\n\n4. \u201cThis is an off switch. It would be great if you used it now and again.\u201d<\/strong>\nTranslation<\/strong>: Remember that time 10 years ago when you left the geyser on? Never letting you live that down.\n\nWhile your peers regularly gawk at <\/span>how responsible<\/span><\/a> you are about spending wisely and cutting corners, your mother will likely guffaw at how you can\u2019t figure basic electricity-saving hacks like keeping your AC on timer mode and drying clothes outside instead of in the washer-dryer. After she\u2019s done pointing out that you once accidentally grilled your own finger in the toaster, be prepared to watch her reteach you how to correctly fold bed-sheets, pillow covers, and even your chaddis. <\/span>\n\nSolution: <\/b>Mention how there\u2019s a new <\/span>Whatsapp<\/span><\/a> update.
