“Team Ka Bandar”: How Manoj Tiwari’s English Improvisations During Ramlila Have Everyone in Splits

Thanks to the pandemic, a lot of festivities and celebrations, unfortunately, have had to take a backseat this year. But the lack of audience in person could not dampen Manoj Tiwari and his high spirits at the star-studded Ramlila.

Performed for nine days of Navratri from October 17 to 25, like many public events Ramlila too took a digital route amid the strict coronavirus protocols and was telecast across YouTube and other social platforms The star-studded play at Laxman Quila in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which is often the center of attention in the days leading up to Dussehra, this time grabbed eyeballs for BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and his Hinglish dialogues.

In a now-viral clip, Tiwari, who is playing Angad, is talking to Ravan, played by actor Shahbaz Khan, when the angrezi unexpectedly slips in. “Ek second, ek second. Woh jo bandar aaya tha, Lanka jala ke chala gaya. Mujhe ghor ashcharya ho raha hai. Woh toh hamare team ka chota sa bandar hai. Bas poonch nachaya karta hai,” Tiwari can be heard saying in the video. And all of this without breaking his character.

The Twitterati was taken by surprise, and have been left in splits at the hilarious turn of events.

“Tragedy mein bhi comedy,” one user laughed it off.

Apart from Tiwari and Khan, this year’s Ramlila also saw Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishen portraying the role of Bharat. Actor Vindu Dara Singh re-enacted his television role of Lord Hanuman. Raza Murad stepped in as Ahiravan while comedic actor Asrani starred as Narad Muni and Rakesh Bedi as Vibhishan. Tiwari’s video, at present, has garnered over 28,000 views on Twitter alone. And the comments keep rising with their humorous takes.
