Sajid Khan Has BeeAccused of Sexual Harassment By Multiple Women. Will They Ever Get Justice?

When the #MeToo movement hit Bollywood in 2018, filmmaker Sajid Khan was accused of sexual harassment by two actresses and a journalist. He was dropped from Housefull 4 and the director credit was given to Farhad Samji, who completed the film. Now, model-actress Paula has taken to social media to say that Khan sexually harassed her when she was 17.

In an Instagram post, she said “When #MeToo movement started, a lot of people spoke about Sajid Khan but I did not dare to, because like every other actor who has no godfather and had to earn for a family I kept quiet. Now I don’t have my parents with me. I’m earning for myself. I can dare to tell you that I have been harassed by Sajid Khan at the age of 17. He spoke dirty to me. He tried to touch me. He even told me to strip in front of him just to get a role in his upcoming Housefull movie.”

She added, “God knows with how many girls he has done this. I am coming out now not for any pity party. It’s just that I realised that had affected me so bad when I was a child and chose not to speak. But it’s high time no? These bastards should be behind bars not only for casting couch but also for manipulating and for stealing away your dreams.”

Paula captioned the post, “Before democracy dies and there is no freedom of speech anymore I thought I should speak!” She also took to Instagram stories to condemn people who abused her in the comments section. She stated that she didn’t speak up for fame or money but while re-evaluating her life, she thought she should speak up against Sajid.

As soon as the post went viral on social media, #ArrestSajidKhan started trending on Twitter. And the anger among users was quite visible.

Old videos started doing the rounds again, where women had accused Khan of sexual harassment. Rachel White’s interviews from 2018 were being shared online, where she claims that the filmmaker told her that if she could seduce him in five mins, the role was hers.

Saloni Chopra had also written in great detail about her horrendous working experience with Sajid Khan. Fed up of his emotional and mental torture, she once asked him what he wanted from her, to which he replied that “he wants me to do everything he tells me to. Stay with him. Maybe he’ll ask me to touch myself in front of him, maybe he’ll want to record it. He’ll do things to me and give me orgasm and teach me the art of sex but maybe he won’t actually put his dick inside me. Maybe he will. But it would be up to him what he wanted and if I thought casting couch was just about one-time sex then I was foolish. No one would cast me unless I was ready to be their ‘keep’.” Saloni had narrated her entire ordeal in a blog post.

Lipstick Under My Burkha actress Aahana Kumra had also accused Khan of behaving inappropriately during a professional meeting, where he asked her if she would have sex with a dog if he gave her Rs 100 crore.

This is the fourth such instance where the filmmaker has been accused and the only question on everyone’s mind is why this serial offender is not behind bars. Are laws not equally applicable to everyone?

“He is a serial sexual harasser, he is not in jail just because of his money & power,” said one user. Conversation around power and influence has taken center stage in the Bollywood industry in the aftermath of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Fans seem to have run out of patience, and want to now see action against perpetrators.

With multiple serious allegations against the same individual in the public domain, the law must catch up fast with criminals, or, as the old adage goes, justice delayed is justice denied.
