Bandish Bandits released a few weeks ago, introducing the world to the blossoming romance between Radhe and Tamanna, two singers from very different backgrounds. With towering performances by Ritwik Bhoumik, Shreya Chaudhary and Naseeruddin Shah, and a plot that ties together classical music, tradition, and this modern Indian love story, the series has its fair share of memorable moments.
The shining star of the show, however, is one that doesn’t get enough credit — the soundtrack. A mix of club-stomping poppy tunes, and classical tunes expertly sung and composed by the legendary Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, the music is both original and guaranteed to get stuck in your head for weeks to come.
Don’t believe us? Check out this list of Bandish Bandits songs that fit every situation and mood, and find out for yourself.
It’s Saturday night and you’re preparing for a night out with your friends after almost a year at home. There’s no better time to listen to Mastiyapaa — Tamanna Sharma’s (Shreya Chaudhary) biggest hit from the show.
Composed by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy, and sung by the talented Jonita Gandhi, the song is so catchy that it’s quickly becoming a hit in real life too.
As the lyrics imply, the song is perfect for when you’re in the mood to party, or for the beginning of a long drive, or simply when you wake up feeling like a rockstar who can do no wrong. Be warned though, pretty soon you’re going to be singing the song very loudly to yourself in the shower.
This monsoon, we’re sure you’ve had those moments — or hours — where you’re sitting at the window and staring pensively at the rain. As it turns out, Bandish Bandits has the perfect song for you to listen to during this annual activity.
Garaj Garaj, an updated version of a popular Rajasthani folk tune, is taken to extraordinary heights by Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Javed Ali in the show, where it is performed by the Panditji, played by Naseeruddin Shah.
Apart from going well with a plate of pakoras and some chai, this uplifting tune will make you feel like you can’t do anything wrong, and is also a unique take on an Indian classical composition, which is rare to see in a web series or movies these days.
If you’re in a long distance relationship, or feeling exceptionally romantic, or simply stuck at home during lockdown with no way to meet your loved ones, Chedkhaniyaan is the one song that’s guaranteed to make you feel better about love.
The cheeky love song, which has become a darling of fans on the internet, was composed by legends Shankar Ehsaan and Loy, and may make you suddenly want to call up your first childhood crush from years ago (don’t do it).
On the other hand, if this feeling of love is also accompanied by overwhelming sadness, may we recommend Javed Ali’s Lab Par Aaye instead:
Padharo Maare Des
The next time you’re on a drive with your family and want to impress them with how cultured you are, turn on Padharo Maare Des from Bandish Bandits and watch your grandparents tear up with joy.
Jokes aside, this fantastic take on the traditional folk song is a very fitting musical tribute to our wonderful country. It’s a great song to listen to when you’re feeling patriotic or missing the comfort of your home. It’s also impossible to listen to this song without getting goosebumps.
Of course, these are just some of the songs from the show that are slowly acquiring cult status on the internet. Check out the full album on YouTube, or better yet, watch the show on Amazon Prime Video, and find out what the hype is all about.
