If the tragedy of the migrant crisis could be encapsulated in one video, it would be the heart-wrenching one where a baby is trying to wake its mother, who is lying lifeless on a railway platform in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. It was a clip that shook the conscience of a nation, perhaps even pushed the Supreme Court to finally take a strong stand on the ongoing migrant crisis.

Now more than a week later, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has decided to provide for the child. When SRK’s team watched the video, it was brought to the actor’s notice who immediately tried to reach out to the family. His Meer Foundation helped locate the baby, who is with his grandparents. Shah Rukh Khan said as someone who understands how it feels to lose one’s parents, his support will always be with the child. “We all pray he finds strength to deal with the most unfortunate loss of a parent. I know how it feels… Our love and support is with you baby,” he wrote on Twitter.

The actor’s Meer Foundation thanked everyone for help and stated, “We are now supporting him and he is under his grandfather’s care.”

With this act of kindness, King Khan won over many more hearts. Writer Shagufta Rafique thanked both Team SRK and Meer Foundation. “When men become real-life heroes and saviours, tab zindagi superhit hojati hai,” she said.

“My heart oozes genuine love & respect for you & for @MeerFoundation Thank you for being an example of true humanity & compassion again & again,” said another user.

The Bollywood star, through his foundation and other ventures – Red Chillies Entertainment, Kolkata Knight Riders – has been helping daily wage workers and even frontline warriors as India battles the pandemic. He provided 25,000 PPE kits to the medical workers in Maharashtra. Through Kolkata Knight Rides and Meer foundation, he announced a series of initiatives in the aftermath of Cyclone Amphan, including a contribution to the West Bengal CM’s Relief Fund, distribution of ration, essential supplies and help in rebuilding homes. In Mumbai, the actor and his wife Gauri offered their four-storey office to be turned into a quarantine centre.

SRK has proved once again that he is a hero both on and off screen.
