British Prime Minister Boris Johnson took to social media to announce that he has tested positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms. Health Minister Matt Hancock is another high profile minister from the government who has been tested positive.

A few days back, Prince Charles, first in line to the British throne had also tested positive with mild symptoms, and had to go into self isolation.

Queen Elizabeth has also had to practise social distancing, leaving the Buckingham Palace for Windsor Castle to spend time in self isolation.

With the British Prime Minister, Health Minister, the Queen and the Prince of Wales all in isolation, two key decision making ministers in the cabinet right now are Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak, and Home Minister Priti Patel. Social media had a field day with two Indian-origin ministers in charge of Britain.

Colonial references incoming in 3…2…1…

Did someone say Karma?

Has the sun finally set on the Empire?

Some have even declared victory.

While the jokes are meant on a lighter note, one wishes speedy recovery for Prime Minister Johnson and members of the Royal Family. India and Britain will need to assist each other to tackle the coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the world. As we take pride in the success of British citizens of Indian-origin, we might as well pay heed to the advice they have to offer.

Stay home, save lives.
