Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of, if not the most, famous men on the planet. The foundation of his fame is the aura of being a badass. As a former wrestling champion, action movie star, and host of the strength competition Titan Games, The Rock is known for his toughness. He’s also the highest paid actor in the world at the moment. Even so, despite all his physical fitness and wealth, Johnson was not immune to the coronavirus. In an Instagram post, the star revealed that he and his family had contracted Covid-19 a few weeks ago, and were currently recovering from the virus.

Johnson, his wife, and two daughters, aged four and seven, all contracted Covid-19 approximately two-and-a-half weeks ago. Fortunately, they are healing and are no longer contagious, with a full recovery around the corner. Over the course of the eight-minute-long video, Johnson said “We are counting our blessings right now because we’re well aware that it isn’t always the case that you get on the other end of COVID-19 stronger and healthier,” before ending the message with “Wear your mask. It is a fact and it is the right thing to do.”

The Rock’s message was a sobering reminder of the prevalence and potency of the coronavirus. Familiarity has bred apathy for some, as the pandemic’s weeks stretched into months. There are people who dismiss the coronavirus as less serious than it is, if they’re not calling it imaginary altogether.

Even some of the world’s most fit athletes – Brazil football player Neymar and spriting legend Usian Bolt – have been infected.

As economic factors motivate governments across the world to roll back lockdown measures, shrugging off the risks posed by the virus seems to be a popular coping mechanism. But if the virus can still infect The Rock, with all his privileges of wealth and blessings of health, it can definitely still infect the average person trying to go about their day.

Staying safe should be a priority to you, especially if you can smell what The Rock is cookin’.
