A Chennai singer is being hailed as a hero after he held a marathon run of Instagram and Facebook live sessions to help raise money for struggling musicians. Satyan Mahalingam has raised as much as Rs 15 lakh after holding a 64-day online concert called “Music 4 Musicians” for his social media followers.
It’s been three months since the coronavirus pandemic was declared, affecting the livelihoods of millions. But this lockdown period has also given rise to a number of ordinary heroes, who have rushed to help those in need across the country.
A Chennai singer is being hailed as one such hero, after he held a marathon run of Instagram and Facebook live sessions to help raise money for struggling musicians.
Chennai: Singer Satyan Mahalingam has been performing on social media for last 63 days to collect funds for musicians facing problems due to #COVID19. According to reports, singer Satyan Mahalingam has raised as much as Rs 15 lakh after holding a 64-day online concert called “Music 4 Musicians” for his social media followers.
“Earlier we used to have 40 to 45 programmes within a month. Our minimum earning was Rs 50,000. With the lockdown, our earnings have come down to zero,” he said.
“Since I am from the music industry, I know how hard it is to survive. So, I have started this to be able to give something back.”
A Chennai based singer, Satyan Ramalingam, has been holding virtual shows on social media for the last 63 days. The Chennai singer was so committed to the cause, that during one of these sessions, he sang non-stop for his followers for a staggering 25 hours.

Since the pandemic was declared, a number of the industry’s biggest names — Deepika Padukone, Shahrukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, to name a few — have made sizable donations to struggling artists and technicians. With singers like Mahalingam now stepping in to do their bit, hopefully the worst of this phase is behind us.
