Social media allows the audience to engage with celebrities directly unlike any other medium. It also allows superstars to be frank, funny, and engage in some playful banter with fans. All of those traits easily apply to the Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, who held an #AskSRK session on his Twitter account.

When asked what his quarantine was like, SRK said he’s been watching a lot of movies (same, SRK). He also pointed out that children, workout and IPL are keeping him busy. Shah Rukh Khan is in the UAE, cheering for his franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. One person asked him if he would be watching DDLJ in cinemas in the UAE, the superstar declined and said he’s waiting to watch a new film of his in theatres.

Sessions like these allow fans to also pose honest, and at times, harsh questions that polite interviewers might avoid. SRK took them head-on, answering a user who asked whether he regretted choosing bad scripts in the last ten years. “One has to believe in what you do and stand by what you do… achievements and acceptance is in the hands of the viewer… your faith is in your heart,” SRK replies.

While we all think of superstars having elaborate lifestyles, who knew SRK was a minimalist when it came to food? When asked what would be the three foods that he would want to eat for the rest of his life, SRK went for the classic daal, chawal and onions. A true desi at heart.

However, there are still a few things that he has to work out when it comes to cooking.

#AskSRK was a good opportunity for fans to get some behind the scenes gossip that they might not have access to. One Twitter user referenced Mohabbatein, which completed 20 years recently, and asked SRK to share some BTS moments in relation to the film. Of all things, SRK mentioned doing the first scene with Amitabh Bachchan and realising how short he was in front of him. Aww SRK, we feel you!

If there’s one thing apart from acting that comes naturally to Shah Rukh Khan, it is being witty and engaging in fun banter. We’ve seen it over the years in hilarious interviews and on point hosting at award shows. When a cricket fan pointed out, “KKR cricket nahi, fans ke jasbaat ke saath khel rahi hai,” SRK cheekily replied “Arre meri socho… mere dil pe kya beet rahi hai!!!!”

Word of mouth reccos are still the best, tbh.

The best reply of the evening came when a user asked SRK, “Bhai Mannat bechne wale ho kya?” King Khan gave a philosophically stinging reply, stating “Bhai Mannat bikti nahi sar jhuka kar maangi jaati hai….yaad rakhoge toh life mein kuch paa sakogay.”

SRK also won awww reacs from the Twitterati when he was asked what anniversary gift he gave to wife Gauri. “What gift can I give to the biggest gift in my life?” he asked, melting half of Twitter and forcing the other half to search for cute GIFs to post beneath the reply.

Of course, the session wasn’t devoid of positive social messaging. When a user asked him about birthday plans and whether the police would allow them to gather outside his house, SRK advocated social distancing and stated, “Iss baar ka pyaar…thoda door se yaar.”

Fun, philosophy, behind the scenes gossip and updates on his career, #AskSRK had it all. In a tumultuous year like 2020, one could always use more wholesome sessions like these, that brings cheer to people’s lives, even if only for a few moments.
